Always have a backup plan, no matter what…
You’ve probably heard it said “the best-laid plans of mice and men oft’ go awry… I was reminded of this just this morning as I was applying my mascara while preparing to catch an early morning flight to Houston, TX.
Then it happened, I don’t know how, but it did. I lost my grip on my mascara brush and it fell into the toilet.
[Tweet “The best-laid plans of mice and men oft’ go awry… I just lived this… again…”].
I have told myself many many times to stop standing anywhere near the porcelain throne while applying my makeup for exactly this reason. I always feared that some implement of facial beautification would end up in there and in my mind I just never allowed myself to mentally complete the full thought because the idea alone made me shudder and, as a result, I would always just take a step or two farther away from the bowl.
Well, in my rush this morning, that “daymare” did not have time to jump into my mind and then it happened.
So I had a choice to make:
- Reach into the bowl and retrieve the mascara, then finish applying it to my un-primped left eye eyelashes
- Flush the truant applicator down the bowl and head out to the airport with my “Big Bird”-length lashes on my right eye and nothing on my left eyelashes
- Hope and pray that by some miracle (or extremely good fore-planning) I had a spare bottle of mascara to save the situation (aka, a backup plan)
