Relocating While Selling Online

Have you ever been in a position where you’re relocating while selling online? How did you handle it? What worked and what didn’t work for you?

I invite you to follow me on a journey as I navigate this uncharted territory. I was initially going to just talk about this on a separate personal blog but then I decided… Why? It’s just easier to do it here and share my journey and experience with other online sellers. 

So in the midst of packing things up, throwing things out, donating the donate-ables and listing inventory I am unearthing… In the process of sifting through all this stuff I had to make some decisions.

I had to decide whether to put my Etsy stores on hiatus a.k.a. “vacation mode” whilst I relocate or whether to keep it open and just adjust my handling times.

Weighing the pros and cons of each…

To Keep Selling Or Not To Keep Selling, That Is The Question

• Pro: Naturally, keeping the shops open will mean that I maintain all that good Etsy SEO momentum that they’ve been gathering. Two are new shops that really need to get and keep all the traction they can get.
• Con: Since this is an interstate move and not simply an in-town move, if I get sales while my inventory is in transition, my shipping times will be way slow… That could potentially upset buyers and I don’t want that.
• Pro: Keeping the shops open will mean that I can continue to make sales while in transit and earn revenue from the shops.
• Con: I already feel stressed about keeping track of what items are packed and stored where (and I haven’t even started the big move yet!); once I arrive at my final destination it’s likely that I’ll be shuttling to a storage center to retrieve items when they sell until the new place is ready to move in to… Ugh…

This is the list I have come up with so far.

The really nice thing about being forced to sort through all this stuff is that it’s got me on a listing spree because I’m re-discovering inventory from a while ago that I never got around to listing.
