Kasia Bourke has found her own success on Etsy but it hasn’t been a straight road as most new seller might hope to have, but her’s is a journey of hope for any seller who is struggling with seeming defeat that their shop on Etsy isn’t what they had hoped it would be.
She’s learned to apply proven business techniques to grow an Etsy-based business.
Kasia opened her first Etsy shop back in 2010 selling decoupage… And if you are unfamiliar with that particular expression of art and creativity, you’ll hear us delve into much more detail about what it is… Also, if you’re adventurous and willing to take a dip in a section of the Etsy pond that may not be fully saturated yet, then you’ll really want to pay attention here.
As with most of my guests on the podcast, you’ll learn about Kasia on a very personal level. Starting with her Etsy shop NoAndEl, which is named after her two children – Noah and Ella… And Baby #3 who will be due any day soon after this podcast goes live!
She opened NoAndEl in 2014 then took a break to rebrand and re-launch… We talk a lot more about why she did and what the whole process looked like for her. There’s a huge lesson in her story about not being afraid to take a step back, assess what you’re doing objectively, and then pivot in whatever direction will take your business where you want it to go.
Kasia put in a lot of intentional work behind the scenes before re-launching and in our conversation you’ll hear what did in order to come back stronger than before.
What We Discussed…
- Kasia’s previous indie businesses and multiple Etsy shops… Why she believes they missed the mark and how she has used what she learned along the way
- Going from hobby to business… What that looked like for her and what it should look like for others who want to make the transition successfully
- Focus… On the “Why” for your customers, not you (and why you need to find your own “why”), as well as on a niche
- Live in-person workshops… Selling spots on Etsy and how Kasia is expanding her creative business with these live workshops (and my own plans to one day do the same in the very near future… more on this in a separate episode 😉 )
- Benefits of focusing on the business aspects of your Etsy shop, not just on the creative side
- Outsourcing tasks, specifically, photography, to Instagram brand reps… And much more detail about IG brand reps and IG pods
- How to find and work with Instagram brand reps
- Selling through Instagram
